What happened to Sharper Image Stores? ›

Sharper Image closed all physical stores in 2008, but the brand is making a temporary physical comeback this holiday season with a pop-up store at 4 Times Square and, of course, living on as a digital e-commerce site and wholesale products provider.

Returned products must be in a new, unused condition, and contain all original packaging and accessories (including all warranty cards and product manuals/instructions). Items with a gift receipt from the packing slip may be returned for an electronic gift certificate.

Sharper Image used to have a good reputation many years ago; currently they are POOR with equally POOR customer service.

Consumer Reports lawsuit

In 2002, Consumer Reports tested many fan-driven air purifiers alongside the Sharper Image's Ionic Breeze Quadra. The Sharper Image was not happy with the results and sued Consumer Reports in order to get what they thought would be a fairer testing of the product.

The problem for the original company was that its stores had plenty of lookers but, because of its high prices, not enough buyers. “Sharper Image was an aspirational brand,” said Federico de Bellegarde, the company's vice president for licensing. While people wanted the products, not enough could afford them.

The new owner of Sharper Image is California-based ThreeSixty Group, which manufactures and distributes toys and other consumer products for over 70,000 retail stores across the country.

Perishable food items or fresh-cut flowers are often not returnable unless they're defective. If you received any gifts that are nonreturnable, consider donating them or regifting them to someone else.

If you didn't get a gift receipt (and you don't want to ask the giver for the original), you may be eligible for store credit, though it may be only in the amount of the lowest price the item sold for recently. Check return policies and note any time limits.

The lawsuit claimed that the devices didn't clean the air and might produce unhealthy levels of ozone. Sharper Image said it included a filter on new Ionic Breeze devices to convert ozone into oxygen. Under the settlement, the filters will be available at a reduced cost to people whose machines lack them.
